20 Jun 2016 --- Philadelphia City Council has rubber-stamped the introduction of a tax on sugary drinks in the city but the American Beverage Association (ABA) immediately said it would take legal action to quash the new law. The tax, which had been previously approved in a preliminary hearing, will be introduced in January next year. This means that Philadelphia will become the first major US city to introduce a tax on sugary drinks at this level. Other companies mentioned are Bunge and Cargill, Monsanto and Nestlé Italia.
